Buckets of Flour, and Johnnycakes Buried in Chili [May. 30th, 2008|07:28 pm]

I got my shipment of four 5 gallon buckets and screw on lids. After washing and drying them, I have put the remainder of my flour into them for storage. They hold about 25 lbs easily, so I can store two 50 lb bags of high gluten flour with no problem. I don't know if I'll need them for the other types of flour or not, I'll hold off buying more for now. Especially if I stop selling at Farmer's Market, I won't need that much flour storage.

I have a new favorite way to serve chili. Dish some into the bowl, toss a 4" johnnycake (corn pancake) in, top with more chili. Throw some cheddar on top, let melt. Makes for a good meal, and makes the johnnycakes edible (I find most cornbread and johnnycakes to be rather dry). My double quantity turkey chili from last night has fed the family for 2 meals, and there are still some leftovers.

Tomorrow's forecast is "partly cloudy" at the moment, let's hope for no rain. Hope to see some of you at the market tomorrow (so that I'm not the only one up that early on a Saturday).
