Not at all a bad morning. [Apr. 26th, 2008|01:51 pm]
Verminius Rex
I went to the Farmer's Market with 4 loaves of bread and 7 dozen bagels. I came home with 4 poppyseed bagels. And a little bit of sun, my face is pink. Overall, a successful day. I'm also learning how to do the bagels in batches of 3 dozen back to back, easier prep work and baking in clusters. Sales of cream cheese packets was also up, meaning more people are eating the bagels on site.

I'm also getting better at setting up the shelter. Next week I may even get it right on the first try. I'll be making some cement supports for the bottom to prevent it from flying away in a stiff breeze (already lost a $40 kite, don't need to lose the shelter). A bit more tarp hanging down to keep the sun off my precious bagels would be real good too, so I get to work with that this week. Sun on the bagels causes condensation on the inside of the package, which goes against my vanity for presenting a pretty product.

Thanks to everyone who swung by the booth. Market can be fun, with friends it definitely is fun.

Am talking you up among the volunteers at Audio Reader. So if you get customers that look professorial, that's where they heard of you.

Congratulations!

I really look forward to sampling when we make it out there.

Cinder blocks make nifty supports.

Drat! I knew I was forgetting something today. The market is going on my 'to do' list for next Saturday. :)

I couldn't make it out this morning (I slept in and it was much needed)

But, I wanted to ask if you bake for order. How much would you charge for a variety (2-3 kinds = that variety) of 2 dozen bagels, say? (Plus fixin's).

I am putting together breakfast deal for a 7:30 a.m. presentation May 6 (Tuesday) in Topeka - and I am looking for way to do a homemade-looking (because the only way you can have food on campus that is not through school caterer is if you make it and bring it) breakfast for ~30 (I still think 2 dozen would be enough). Suggestions welcome.
