again, I win the Internet Scavenger Hunt... [Feb. 13th, 2007|11:06 am]

I have a few things that I look for online, with little or no intentions of buying. I call it my Internet Scavenger Hunt. It started many years ago, during the internet's infancy (more like toddlerhood, it was around 1994ish) when I tried for a long time to find hairless rats. I found them in a Topeka pet store a couple years later, but back then you couldn't just do a Google search and find a source for hairless rats (go ahead, I dare you to Google it. You'll find plenty of breeders now, possibly one local).

One worthless item that I always wanted to find was the size of test tube that you see bars use for shot glasses, which are 6 inches long. And they must have a cap, because I'd be using them for many things, but most likely not shot glasses (lack of drinking, darn it.) Over the years, the occasional casual search would turn up various medical supply places selling the plastic test tubes and such, but they usually stopped around 5 inches long. Or if I found the larger ones, they didn't have a cap.

Last night, I did the late night Google while winding down for bed, and I found a source for the 6 inch test tubes, both in clear and neon colors, and a variety of caps to go with them. Do I need them? Of course not! But I found them, so I win the Internet Scavenger Hunt. It only took me 10 years (although I didn't really look that hard.) I think it says a lot for how good Google is at finding stuff, if you can find the right search words. If you are curious, they are here.

Another interesting related product here.

How amusing! Those look like fun. I am now reminding myself that I don't need any. :)
