Why do these cookie recipes always say "makes two dozen" or more, when I can only get about 15-17 out of the batch? I'm even using the right sized scoop for the dough.

It's because cookie dough is so good to eat before it becomes a cookie:)

Are you using a rounded scoop though, or flattening each scoop level before dropping the dough? That's a significant difference so I'd guess your scoops are either generous or the recipe lists the wrong size.

Flat, not round. I think they have an idealized view of the world when the write these recipes. Maybe they fill their scoop "differently" somehow.
