In my day, Muppets had names like Kermit, Sam, Grover.

I would have gone with allowing Elmo some elbow room in the Muppet Pantheon until he started to take over. Elmo's World was the breaking point for me. I think he needs to take some of his own lessons on sharing and give up a bit of the spotlight.
