My wife works and writes about technology, so there are many little devices around the house related to her work. I occasionally get some of the surplus after upgrades or abundance makes them available. Thus, in addition to my Xoom, I now have a Samsung Galaxy tablet. The annoying part is getting it set up with my preferred apps, the good part is that I really don't use that many apps so its not like I have to load dozens, just maybe a dozen by the time I'm done. It is much smaller and lighter than the Xoom, so I think this may become my ebook reader in the future. Still like my Xoom, it's great for watching Netflix in the kitchen.

I'd like to hear both of your opinions on the different tablets. I'm considering one to replace a dying laptop.

Marz can give you the rundown on tablets and what she thinks is best, about them replacing laptops I'd say you may prefer to still have a laptop. I'll use my tablet for ebooks and a bit of browsing and some apps but laptops have other functions (like photo editing and such) that I can't see tablets replacing, not to mention a bigger screen and physical keyboard. For some people tablets can replace their laptop, for me a tablet is an accessory in addition to the laptop.

Yes, I have two working laptops (the older of which I expect to fail any day now), a netbook and a Nook Color.

Gadget freak, who me? :)

The Nexus 7 is rocking my world right now. Cheap, fast, and not locked down.

I like that, but I think I'm looking for a decent 10" right now since I already have the Nook Color for a walkabout tool.
In a toss-up between the Xoom and the Galaxy, which do you prefer? At my age, screen resolution is a big plus, and if you've talked about this on about, feel free to just point me to the article.

The Xoom is crap, frankly. If you want a full size Android tablet, look at Asus.

Wow.. good to know because the easily obtained reviews glow over it.
I'll check out Asus, although I have a friend in Oz who has had more problems with their gadgets than one person should ever have to deal with, so I've been skeptical.
ETA: I checked in with her, and it's the PCs she's had the most troubles over.. but she also tells me that she has problems with any electronics, it's her life story, lol.
