pattern fusion progress... [Apr. 9th, 2012|11:55 pm]

Pirate coats involve a lot of bulk, and I haven't even gotten to the fabric yet. All pattern pieces from the original pattern are traced and cut out (using posterboard), now I have the front and back plus sleeve of another pattern traced out to fuse with the pirate coat. The objective is to have a pattern where the sleeve is one piece, and there is a single seam running from hem to cuff rather than a two part sleeve. I'm also a fan of making the sleeves symmetrical so you can't put them on the wrong side, but that is secondary.

The next step (which I will do tomorrow) will be to trace out the original pattern, then lay on the new one to adjust the sleeves and arm openings. Once that is done I'll pick out some fabric of the proper weight that I have no emotional attachment to and begin the first mockup.
