garden 2012 progress... [Mar. 21st, 2012|08:02 pm]

Got all the potatoes on hand in the ground, lots of onions, some lettuce, just shoved a bunch of garlic in (will harvest like green onions, for big bulbs you plant in the fall) and it appears that my rosemary plant survived the winter and is putting out new leaves.

I also ordered a bunch of blackberries, Navajo and Arapaho varieties because they are upright, thornless and have offset fruiting seasons. The guy in Arkansas who took my order was warning me the total was $40 with shipping for 14 starters, I told him a pot with 1-3 starters of varieties I didn't want were $15 in town so I considered it a good deal. I'll plant several of them in two separate raised beds (to be buit), the rest will go to my dad for his back fence.

Ugh. You make me lust after more space! I think I carry a dominant farming gene.

The garden is taking up the entire length along the north fence of my back yard. Here's a shot of it, and a chart of the layout. Nearest beds in the photo are going to have blackberries in about a week.

I have so many weeds and invasive grass to pull so I can reclaim my garden around the beds.
