Writer's Block: On the menu [Jul. 12th, 2011|09:55 am]

What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Was it any good?

It was strange to me at the time, but I shared a sushi boat with Marz back in the 1990's. From my viewpoint, it was balls of rice topped with raw dead sea critters. To be fair, that's probably what it was. It wasn't for another 10-15 years that I discovered the joy of California rolls, followed by at least a tolerance if not a like for most sushi that isn't spicy.

Still, there is something seriously wrong with the sight of a rice ball that has a tentacle held on with a strip of nori.

Other than that, I've tried calamari and snails, had goat and lamb (lamb isn't really weird but not real common in all parts of the midwest).

Let me know next time you are coming near Lawrence, I'll get a babysitter and we can hit Yokohamas. Our friend from Japan was amazed at how good the sushi was.
