I'm pretty sure the two huge onions that I thought were walking onion survivors are actually normal onions probably either left over from a previous year or transplanted when I topped off the beds. They are much bigger than the walking onions, and haven't started doing their branching out. I'm leaving them alone just to see how big they are by the end of the season. |
The walking onions are starting to branch out as they should, meaning i'm closer to having more onions to plant and populate the bed. Keeping the grass plucked from the bed is annoying but part of gardening. There's plenty in the hoop house bed to weed out, since I salvaged the substrate and plenty of seeds got mixed in.
Tonight I started up some pots with mini-pumpkin seeds and some Atlanta Giant pumpkin seeds. I'll plant the giants in the back corner, and the mini I'm going to try and run up the side of the shed. It's probably a week or so before they poke up through the ground and will be ready for replanting in their permanent locations. Might even have a few extra plants to give away, I planted more than i needed to make sure I had enough to start with.
There is constant rain in the forecast, don't know how much garden time I'll get this weekend. Mostly I need to do some weeding and maybe replant a few tomato and pepper plants that don't seem to be thriving after that last bit of frost.
