Not in time for the Steampunk Tea event, but I'm working on plans for my first true steampunk costume. The victorian tea a couple years ago prompted me to do a mishmash costume good enough for the evening, this is a little better.

First and foremost, I'm not much of a suit sort of person. My stay at home dad uniform is a pair of shorts, novelty tshirt, and slip on shoes without socks. So the steampunk persona I'm looking at is a craftsman. Simple, comfortable, and preferably able to be modified for multiple uses. I'm looking at a Past Patterns overalls pattern, to be done in a brown canvas material. I found banded collar shirts for a good price on amazon, they are uniform shirts for baristas and such. Shoes I haven't decided on yet, although my combat boots would probably work. If the overalls fit well enough I may even be able to wear it with a waistcoat so it can be dressed up a touch, but I'd avoid a jacket or coat for the sole reason that most events I wear it to are indoors and heat up quickly. I'm rolling the dice with long sleeves as it is. I'm checking out antique style glasses and possibly bowler hats. For the craftsman, a leather wielders apron would work well, with a watch pocket and proper accessories.

I figure stage one is to order the shirt and overalls pattern, everything else is build on that.

Don't forget the armband over the sleeve!
