Happy Mother's Day to those of you who have spawned. Pari and I made blintzes and crepes for the family breakfast, and I currently have my first brisket being bombarded with smoke out on the patio. In a couple hours I'll wrap it up in foil, then toss in the oven to finish up while we go about our regular lives and hope it's done by dinner.

Looks like my walking stick kale are poking up through the ground. I'm being proactive with the pest and slug control this year, hoping to have them over 6' tall this time around and big enough for walking stick material. Wish I knew someone with a year round greenhouse interested in growing them, I'd like to see the 8-10 foot biannual growth but our winters are too much.

I'm taking the day off of garden landscaping. I'm sore and have gotten lots of sun, yesterday Kiyan walked through my freshly laid garden bed much to my annoyance. He's good about leaving anything with growth alone, but a blank garden bed is just a sandbox to him. Still waiting for my cucumbers and squash to pop up. Walking stick onions are growing well, but it's still going to be next year before I can freely pick them.
