wooden sword project... [Apr. 15th, 2011|09:27 pm]
Verminius Rex
The wooden sword that I did a quick paint job using Rub n Buff is my latest project. Tonight I sanded off all the lousy paint that I slapped on (was not too bad for a quick paint job, but that was a different experiment) and got the varnish beneath it too. I estimate it took about an hour of constant sanding, followed by a damp towel wipedown for the dust removal. The next step will be some wood glue to tighten the loose handle and guard, any touchup sanding for the glue, then at least one layer of primer. I'll see if there is any need for fine sanding on the primer when I reach that stage.

If nothing else, the sanding has smoothed out where I reguled the broken blade about 10 years ago, and it will take any surface treatment much better than the varnish did. I figure after the primer, I'll apply the Rub n Buff, then a layer of furniture wax for projection and shine. Then a simple wrapping of the grip in leather or cord to finish the job.
