I found walking onions on ebay (from St Joseph MO, actually) that are already growing so I could get a couple batches and have them already growing. I also ran across giant blackberry seeds, which intrigues me. I may get a packet and plant them in the back corner I'm clearing out right now. The down side of the blackberries is they apparently only produce for a month or two, but if I mostly ignore them in part of the yard I hardly use, it's not a very big investment. I'm also pondering blueberries.

I still find it amazing that I can't keep a cherry tree alive, but the scrub tree in the corner I keep cutting down grows back each year. I wish there was an easier way to clear out some of these areas to start fresh, but tree roots go deep. Best I can hope for is to grow some blueberries or blackberries along the fence and keep new growth under control by mowing it regularly while letting grass retake the corner.
