busy day... [Sep. 13th, 2010|06:21 pm]

I have started adding trim downstairs. It's not brain surgery (or computer programming or any of those other things that requires a lot of brains and education)  but there is a bit of a learning curve. Using the mitre box is taking a little practice, and I've hit the steel beams used to reinforce the basement walls a few times. But it's going up, and even doing just a few pieces at a time means the basement will be done pretty soon.

Kiyan had his first session with the reading project. It probably resembled an alien abduction to him. "I was taken to an examination room, where I was bombarded with tests involving pictograms and the alphabet. They gave me gummy fruit candy before releasing me." He's going 3 times a week, we'll see if he gets into the groove sometime soon.

The smoked chicken got cooked a little higher than desired but came out pretty good. I need to work on my brine a touch, and watch the smoker temp more. But it's good and will supply dinner tonight and maybe tomorrow.

Now I'm going to add a few more bits of trim downstairs, and see about hanging the screen back up on the wall.

I wonder what you would have thought about earlier posts where I talked about adding support downstairs.

Nothing like struggling with some cuts before you wonder, "Should I replace my 10 year old saw to make those mitre cuts easier?" They cost about $6 at Home Depot. I think the rest of my cutting will be much easier.
