thoughts on cucumbers... [Jul. 26th, 2010|04:00 pm]

After seeing the number of cucumbers between the "burpless", the lemon and the armenian varieties, I've come to understand why the common type of cucumber (in my case a variety called burpless) is so much more popular. They are the first to produce, and crank out much greater numbers. I can go out and expect 2-4 standard cucumbers, and this entire summer I've gotten 4 lemon and 1 armenian cucumber from four of each vine. So next year I won't bother with the other varieties, they appear to do no good. And I won't bother with netting, the pvc frame and twine does much better for controlling where the vines go (will do something similar with the tomato plants).

It's very hot outside, and I really need to do some gardening and definitely some mowing. And tomorrow we take Kiyan in to be knocked out for a filling. Oh, joy.
