I'll have both yellow squash and possibly white pattypan later this week. The early planting of two summer squash plants paid off. And some of the cucumbers are nearly tall enough to start wrapping around the trellis netting. |
After watering I let Pari play with the hose for a bit. It may drive up the water bill some, but she waters the new cherry trees, and it keeps her out of my hair while I weed the garden and do a brief stint in the hammock. After Kiyan blazed a trail through the onion bed I have been watching him closely, especially when he starts trellis yanking. And here i thought the rabbit was potentially destructive.
This coming week is going to be interesting. Dad will probably be back working on the basement. Kiyan goes back to preschool on the 9th, so I'll get more work done at home with about 2 hours free (Pari can help or entertain herself for that long). I want to get the front stoop sledgehammered soon, we'll see if it's clear enough to get that done by Friday.
I think I may have figured out what was wrong with at least the smoker. Opening up the propane tank too fast can cause the emergency shutoff to restrict air flow, which causes a low flame. So by opening it slowly, I get better gas flow and a flame that doesn't blow out with the least flame. Now I'm going to get some split chicken breast and set up a brine, so I can smoke them in a couple days. If that works out, some pork is probably in my future.
