Kiyan is being annoyingly clingy at the moment. He's over the low grade fever he was running, but is still taking long naps and has fussy spells.

Pari leaves with my MIL for Chicago at 5am. Getting Pari to bed and waking her up early is going to be interesting. Then it'll be me and Kiyan until Sunday.

I took the kids out back for awhile and removed most of the soil from the existing raised beds, putting them into containers for easy storage. I tipped over the beds so the lumber can dry out from the soil before I disassemble them for the bigger raised beds. Pari was enjoying being a worm rancher while I was shoveling. The soil has plenty of grass and dandelion contamination, so I'll use it for the container gardening.

After talking with Dad it was decided that instead of weed cloth I'll just put down multiple layers of newspaper (or butcher paper, we got huge rolls of that stuff) beneath the garden area to keep the weeds down. Cheaper and more environmentally friendly. Taking up the weed cloth from two small 4x4 gardens has been a pain, so something that'll decompose over time especially if I go back to lawn sounds great.

Toxins in newspaper inks were removed long ago, newspaper is now safe for both garden and pet bedding use. The toxins were removed largely because they were toxic to the workers in the printing industry but also due to their environmental impact.
