some stuff accomplished.... [Jan. 9th, 2009|01:27 pm]

The cable guy was here by 11am, box and dvr were returned, and he did whatever he was supposed to do outside. I should have just dropped off the equipment at the office, and not cared if it meant two work tickets for them or whatever. We'll see how the digital tv over the air looks before deciding if we drop cable all together.

Tomorrow I'm attending the KCCG tea, it's a sort of Victorian/Steampunk-ish theme. Since that's not my usual genre, I was only willing to make a small investment to convert my black suit into something with the illusion of being close to the theme. The only thing I'm really lacking that I would almost like is a walking stick, but I don't want to spend any more for a 2 hour event. What I did note while shopping is that vests are cut real stupid, because they don't come down far enough. They are designed to be worn with pants that come up much higher, which haven't been worn regularly by men in something like 80-100 years. If I had the time i might make something, but not worth the time and effort.

Tonight the broth I worked so long on (ok, the stove worked long, I just set it to boil and strained the remains out) will become chicken noodle soup. This should be good.

We dropped cable over the summer and found it wasn't that bad. With a decent antenna we receive all the local channels plus a few more. You might have some other options in Lawrence. The reception is wonderful on the digital channels.

We do miss some of the cable channels, but that's a want and not a need. Wm says hulu.com has a lot of tv shows available for free to view anytime online. I've not used it, but he watches it all the time.

Someday we will get cable back, but for now we're doing just fine without it. And that's with 2 kids home all day.
