Yesterday I got a waffle iron, ours dated back 13 years and was a wedding gift. The indicator light no longer worked (or was even there), it dripped and made a mess, and I just wanted better. So I got a decent one that has that wonderful feature where it flips over (evens out air bubbles for a better texture and even browning), an actual on/off switch (as opposed to just being on after plugging in), temp control (although it'll usually be at 4), and both an on light and a done light plus alarm. Plus a drip pan, one of my favorite features after cleaning up after the old one so many times.|
For the after school snack I made waffles for the kids. We are cutting out dairy in Kiyan's diet to see if it helps with some unpleasant side effects, so I made a batch with soymilk and a regular batch for comparison. The soymilk batch turned out quite well, which made me feel better after realizing that I may have to cut Kiyan out of the usual weekend breakfast treats of pancakes and waffles.
The waffle itself is very nice, with deep cells, a crisp exterior and tender but done interior. Yum. The leftovers are cooling before being frozen for later breakfasts/snacks (they warm up well in the toaster oven).
